TIANCHI - From 2 to 3 million years ago, water carved a celestial pool for itself in China. During that period, lake Tianchi was shaped by Quaternary Period Glacier. The lake is around 2000 metres above sea level in China’s Xinjiang region. 

Mandarin Chinese word Tianchi literally means “heavenly lake” - there are several lakes with that name in China and Taiwan.
